Is Organic Food Really Free from Pesticides?

Organic food has become popular among many health conscious people especially parents of young children as they believe the organic food is free of harmful pesticides. 

However, is organic food really free from pesticides?




According to the above news article,  we can learn that there are many 'organic pesticides' which are harmful to humans found in organic harvest!! 


What is organic definition?


The word "organic" refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat. Organic farming practices are designed to meet the following goals:
  • Enhance soil and water quality
  • Reduce pollution
  • Provide safe, healthy livestock habitats
  • Enable natural livestock behavior
  • Promote a self-sustaining cycle of resources on a farm
Materials or practices not permitted in organic farming include:
  • Synthetic fertilizers to add nutrients to the soil
  • Sewage sludge as fertilizer
  • Most synthetic pesticides for pest control
  • Irradiation to preserve food or to eliminate disease or pests
  • Genetic engineering, used to improve disease or pest resistance or to improve crop yields
  • Antibiotics or growth hormones for livestock
Organic crop farming materials or practices may include:
  • Plant waste left on fields (green manure), livestock manure or compost to improve soil quality
  • Plant rotation to preserve soil quality and to interrupt cycles of pests or disease
  • Cover crops that prevent erosion when parcels of land are not in use and to plow into soil for improving soil quality
  • Mulch to control weeds
  • Predatory insects or insect traps to control pests
  • Certain natural pesticides and a few synthetic pesticides approved for organic farming, used rarely and only as a last resort in coordination with a USDA organic certifying agent
Therefore, it's not surprising that you can still find traces of pesticides (being organic/ synthetic) in the organic harvest! 

So, to me, especially with Chemical Engineering background, the strongest evidence of ORGANIC are through pesticide testings. 

As this is the ONLY way to prove that the harvest is really free from pesticides.

Is Fatty Liver Disease a Concern to you? How to Prevent Fatty Liver???

I attended Live With Dr Chen's talk (Chapter 2) at Resorts World Sentosa on 21st May. 

It was a very educational and I get to further enhance my Nutritional Immunology Knowledge to be able to serve better too =)

One of my great learnings was on Fatty Liver Disease!!



***Even a 5 year old suffered from Fatty Liver Disease due to Nutrition Misconception. 

People of higher risk to get Fatty Liver Disease are : 

Alcohol drinker
Obese due to unhealthy diet and lifestyle
People who use synthetic vitamins mineral pills (chemically made food), such as Vitamin A, E and iron pills

(as the above add burden and damaging the liver) 

Do you know also : 

• Drinking Kombucha,
Taking herbal medication  (such as 何首乌, 田七, etc etc)
• Using Pain killers (especially paracetamol)

are hurting and damaging your liver and lead to Fatty Liver Disease too? 

Fatty Liver Disease has  NO medicine to cure!!

Most of the time, it stay hidden in the body until symptoms such as

  • Jaundice
  • body turns yellow
  • Swollen Liver
  • Painful feeling on liver 

surface only the person discovered about their liver is deteriorating!!!!!!!

As liver has no sensory gland, so when this happens, the liver might already be hardened follows by liver cancer. 

(Many of the Normal Liver Testings may not indicate the accurate condition of your liver condition) 



***Once the liver reach Cirrhosis (Liver Hardening), it's irreversible. 


How do you take care of your liver when it's still healthy?

How to make Vegecolor Quinoa Salad?

Thanks to my team mate who shared with me on how to make Quinoa Salad using Vegecolor!


Here's my version of Quinoa Salad! 

I took it as my lunch!



Ingredients: 

Quinoa
Parsley
Green Spring Onion
Cherry tomatoes 
Corns
Japanese Cucumber
E.Excel Blended Cooking Oil 
E.Excel VegeColor 


At the same time, made a Simple Quinoa meal with VegeColor for my kids too. 

It attracts their liking to Quinoa after adding VegeColor =)
