Parents looking for Natural remedy besides medicine intake for children

Many parents will ask are here any other alternatives besides than resorting to western treatment when our child fell sick?


  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?

  • But why there is not much improvement to their frequent fever and cough?

As a mother of 2, I can relate totally to the anxious feeling of the parents.

After years of seeking for health improvement during my teenager's days and early working life,

What is Eczema?

  • Affecting about 10% of infants and 3% of the total population in the United States, eczema suffered have to endure the inflamed skin conditions that can include redness, blistering and oozing of the skin. The exact cause is unknown but many researches suspect genetic abnormality and a malfunctioning immune system.

  • Eczema is a common skin condition marked itchy and inflamed patches of skin. It is also known as atopic dermatitis. It is more common in babies and young children. It occurs on the faces of infants, as well as inside the elbows and behind the knees of children, teenagers, and adults. 
  • It is caused by an overactive immune system. 
  • Up to 20 percent of children and one to three percent of adults develop atopic dermatitis, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
  • In rare cases, atopic dermatitis can first appear during puberty or adulthood. It affects males and females equally. 
  • The exact cause of atopic dermatitis (eczema) is unknown, but it's likely due to a combination of dry, irritable skin with a malfunction in the body's immune system. Stress and other emotional disorders can worsen atopic dermatitis, but they don't cause it.
In fact, eczema is one of the auto-immune diseases, which mean the immune cells attack own organ (in this case, it is skin).


1. What is Auto-Immune Disease?

  • There are at least 80 types of auto immune diseases. They can occur in many organs and cause various symptoms. 
  • Auto inmune diseases result from a confused immune system attaching normal body tissues. 
  • This is unlike a normal functioning immune system that only attracjs substances that are harmful to the body such as bacteria, viruses, toxins and cancer cells. 

2. How does consuming Meat, Dairy products increase the risk of auto-immune disease?

- Eating meat and dairy products raises the risk of auto immune diseases. 

Example those who consumed the most dairy products had almost twice the risk of deceloping inflammatory polyarthritis as those with the lowest consumption. 

  • The intestinal lining can become inflamed due to the intake of substances such as alcohol and drugs. 
  • The intestinal inflammation will lead to LEAKY GUT SYNDROME which cause most of the auto-immune diseases. 




  • Inflammation causes the release of chemicals that dissolves the membranes of intestines. 
  • Food is digested in the stomach and intestines and broken down into small molecules that pass through intestinal walls to enter the blood streams.
  • The intestinal wall acts as a filter and protective barrier
  • If this filter is 'damaged' (a common occurrence during inflammation), there will be increased permeability (commonly referred as a LEAKY GUT).
  • This allows incomplete digested big molecules to pass through the intestinal walls into the blood streams. 
  • When these incomplete big molecules accumulate in certain organs, they stimulate the immune system to react by initiating the inflammation responses. 
  • While attacking these foreign substances, the immune system may mistakenly attack the neighbouring organs, thereby leading to the auto immune diseases.

Fiber and Nutritional Immunology

How many of you goes to washroom for bowel movement at the same timing on daily basis?
How many of you do not need to spend much effort for your bowel movement?

If your answer is yes, then probably your fiber intake is good. 

In general, i believe many people would want to find out how much fiber intake is considered enough to maintain good health? 

The American dietetic Association, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association recommend a daily intake of 25g to 35g of dietary fiber to maintain good health.

Example of fiber content:
  • Carrot (1) 2.3g 
  • Celery (1cup) 1.7g 
  • Apple (1 fruit w skin) 2.8g 
  • Kiwi (1 fruit) 1g 
  • Barley (1/2 cup,cooked) 4.2g
  • White rice (1/3 cup) 0.5g
  • Psyllium husk (100g) = 78g
  • Oat (100g) = 11g



(Fiber can only be found from plants, not animals

There are many benefits of fiber to our body to prevent many diseases including 

• colorectal cancer
• heart diseases
• control blood sugar level
• prevent obesity etc. 

For children, they can have a better appetite, better digestive health, healthy weight gain.

After understanding the importance of fiber intake, i personally think it's really challenging for us to get enough 25g - 35 gram of fiber a day from our diet!!

Let's see how's our daily diet usually go?

For example

Breakfast:
- Salad
= 4 g of fiber 

Lunch: 
- rice with 2 servings of vegetables + 1 serving of meat 
- 2 slices of fruits 
= 5 g of fiber

Dinner: 
- noodle 
- 1 apple and 1 orange 
= 5 g of fiber

Total fiber = 14 g of fiber 

(Recommended fiber intake a day is 25 - 35 gram) - only fulfil 50% 

Insufficient of fiber intake will cause constipation problem. Looking at the above diet habit, it's understandable why constipation has become so common nowadays. 

Many have suffered from Haemorrhoid also after experiencing chronic constipation for a while.  

The above problems can lead to colon cancer if nothing has been done to rectify. 

Colon cancer rate is increasing in recent years. 

Nothing happens out of sudden. It starts from small problems. For example, the person has been suffering from piles and chronic constipation before being diagnosed with colon cancer. 

Colon Cancer has incubation period of 10-20 years before being detected and diagnosed. 
So never ignore the importance of sufficient fiber intake in our daily diet. 

By changing our diet, we can save our lives and family's lives!

There are many fiber products in the market to help solve the constipation problems for example some forms of fiber drinks.

However, some fiber drinks in the market is 'effective' but not safe. For example, it gives laxative effects to clear the bowel by stimulating the bowel movement. Laxative effects give rise to many health problems including rectal irritation, stomach discomfort etc.
