Recently, I started incorporating more resistance training into my routine. 💪
It made me realise that building muscle isn’t only about how hard we train
Exercise provides the stimulus, but our body still needs the right nutrition to repair, maintain and build muscle.
How Much Protein Do We Need?
Protein provides amino acids, the building blocks our body uses for muscle repair and muscle protein synthesis.
For a healthy adult, the basic protein recommendation is around 0.8g per kg of body weight per day. For people who exercise regularly or are working towards building muscle, protein needs may be higher—often around 1.4–2.0g/kg/day, depending on training intensity and individual needs.
For example, someone weighing 55kg may need:
- About 44g/day as a basic requirement
- Around 77–110g/day when exercising regularly and focusing on muscle building
So instead of simply asking, “Should I drink protein powder?”, a better question is:
“Am I getting enough quality protein throughout my entire day?”
Animal Protein or Plant Protein?
Meat, eggs, dairy and whey can all provide high-quality protein.
However, when choosing my protein source, I don’t look only at the number of grams of protein. I also consider what comes together with that protein.
That is one reason I like soy. 🌱
Soy is considered a complete protein, meaning it provides all nine essential amino acids that our body cannot produce on its own. Research also supports soy protein as an effective protein source for supporting muscle development when combined with resistance exercise.
What About Soy Protein Isolate?
Soy protein isolate is made by processing soybeans to separate and concentrate the protein. This gives it a high protein content.
However, when protein is isolated, we are mainly getting the protein fraction, rather than the broader nutritional package found naturally in the whole soybean.
Whole soy provides protein together with naturally occurring components such as fiber, healthy fats, minerals and phytonutrients, including soy isoflavones.
That is why my preference goes beyond simply asking:
“How many grams of protein am I getting?”
I also consider:
“What comes together with that protein?” 🌱
This is why I choose Soypro as part of my nutrition routine. I prefer a more whole-food approach that focuses not only on protein intake, but also on the overall nutritional value of the food source.

Protein matters. But the nutritional package matters too.
Ready to Build Stronger? 💪🌱
